Another Scavenger Hunt!

You guys did such a great job making inferences about the dolls picture -- I thought I'd up the ante. Great for a rainy day, right? I took this picture myself, and I'd like YOU to tell me WHO the statue is! I will check back later tonight and offer a hint if necessary. The first person to figure it out gets... hmmm.... let's see.... the person who figures it out first gets to be the MOST SUPREME MMM THINKER!! Whoever (among the two of you) racks up the most "MOST SUPREME MMM THINKER!!!" titles this summer will be welcomed back to school in August with a pretty substantial prize as well as some serious bragging rights! OOooOO I think this just got interesting! Happy searching!

  1. BAM got it. I used your image and used Google to search for images that look similar to it and found nothing. So then I entered in some keywords of "Shanghai" and "Statue" since I knew you had been to Shanghai. Then, two images of the same statue came up, but both of them were from travel blogs and the caption was listed as "someone famous." So then I was super confused. After a while more of searching, I figured out that the statue was located in Hangzhou. Then, I took the second of the two images that I located on the travel blogs, and I used Google to search for similar images to it, and was able to locate the statue on a German Wikipedia article. Then I switched the article to English, and there it was: the statue's image on a Wikipedia article on Su Shi (Su Dongpo).

  2. Let's see here... the statue is located near West Lake in Hangzhou, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dongpo was born 1037 and died 1101. He was best known in China as a writer, artist, governor, and poet. I feel like I've had a good start to this quest... I happened to log on two minutes after you posted that and then found it within 15.

Looks like I may have to increase the challenge since you have made quick work of this one. Where shall we go next.....hmmmmmm....
